notes on John Alexander Crossett, Jr.
1Notes from Darlene (Crossett) Fenner, e-mail of 23 Oct 1997, to
Gene Crossett, Jr.:
"Have been told he was in a family with many brothers, ran away from home at a young age and joined the circus. He apparently was with the circus for 30 years then left to join the railroad in Tennessee where he met my grandmother. He was 76 when he died and my father was 10 years old. His [John, III's] mother died shortly afterwards and the children were separated and sent to state orphanages. To the best of our knowledge this was our grandfather's only marriage."
2Notes from Darlene (Crossett) Fenner, e-mail of 21 Feb 1998, to Gene Crossett, Jr.:
". . . My father's sister . . . remembered a brother he had who lived in Chicago. His name was Tom Crossett and he married a lady named Nellie. They had a daughter named Margaret. He died after getting kicked in the head by a horse."
"She said her father [John Alexander Crossett, Jr.] was in the Barnum and Bailey Circus and that he lived in German Town, Pennsylvania, or German Town, Tennessee, she is not quite sure which. His father originated from France and his mother was Irish."
3Notes from Darlene (Crossett) Fenner, e-mail of 27 Feb 1998, to Gene Crossett, Jr.:
". . . John Alexander Crossett [Jr.] . . . came from a family of nine brothers and was indeed from Germantown, Pennsylvania. May Blanche Lowe was his second wife. By his first wife he had one daughter, Aleva Stone, from Indiana. My Aunt Frances remembers him dying in April on Good Friday."
